The Supreme Court has overturned the decision of the Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction in the case of Ergys Kolaveri, returning the file for retrial to the Court of Appeal, with a different panel of judges.
The decision was made by the panel headed by Judge Sandër Simoni, who decided to overturn the Appeals Court decision that had declared Kolaveri innocent.
Ergys Kolaveri was sentenced in the first instance to 20 years in prison for the failed sniper assassination attempt on Gazmir Daci, with the aim of killing him inside Vaqarr prison.
After the Appeals Court's decision, Kolaveri was declared innocent, but now the case will be reviewed again in the Appeals Court by another panel of judges.
The retrial will start from scratch and the court will have to reexamine the evidence and circumstances of the case.
