This month, drivers will have to pay to travel through the 5.9-kilometer segment of the Llogara tunnel. For cars, the fee is set at 250 lek for a one-way trip and 500 lek for a round trip, which translates to about 1 euro per kilometer.
Meanwhile, final field tests of the payment system are underway. Security cameras, electronic control devices and supporting infrastructure are being verified to ensure the correct functioning of the charging scheme, which is expected to come into effect soon.
The fees will be differentiated according to vehicle categories. Motorcycles will pay 100 lek, while for heavy-duty vehicles the fee reaches up to 5000 lek. For vehicles with bodywork, a fee of 500 lek is foreseen, while for vans and buses it is 1000 lek.
Emergency vehicles, police, military, fire brigades, as well as people with disabilities will be exempt from the payment.
Since the opening of traffic 2 years ago and until now, passage through the Llogara tunnel has been free of charge.
