The causes of the large-scale fire that engulfed Himara remain to be determined. Mayor Vangjel Tavo, speaking on the show "Minuta e Parë" on News24 with Ola Bruko, stated that the responsibility for clarifying the circumstances lies with the Police and the Prosecution.
Asked if the fire might have been intentional, Tavo said reservedly: "This is a matter that the police and the prosecution are dealing with. We do not have a final report and I cannot comment without an investigation into this case."
He said he is not aware of any indication that the fire was intentionally set. Meanwhile, regarding rumors that the fire may have been used as a scenario for the Mountain Package, the mayor of Himara described these claims as "fairy tales."
Tavo also spoke about the firefighting capacities of the Himara Municipality, stating that currently there are six fire engines and one fire truck. "This is an issue that is being handled by the police and the prosecution. We do not have a final report and I cannot comment without having an investigation into this case. I am not aware that it could be intentional. If a person sets a fire, there are two possibilities, either intentional or accidental. The allusions on the internet are fairy tales. They are olive groves. So the olive groves have been shared with the AMTP and these cases are excluded from the Mountain Package. The first hearth within 25 minutes reached near the apartments. So I was forced to issue the order for the evacuation of those residents who were at risk from the fire. We have 6 fire engines and one fire truck. They are very sufficient, and they are new," he said.
The investigation is expected to determine the cause of the fire, while teams on the ground continue to assess the damage caused to residents' homes, olive groves, and other property.
