A large-scale fire has engulfed the Kropisht area in Selenica, burning dozens of hectares of bushes and trees, as well as a significant number of centuries-old and young olive trees.
The flames were only contained in the early hours of this morning, around 04:30, after a prolonged operation to neutralize the fire.
Residents of the area, along with the firefighting forces of Vlora and Selenica, have been engaged in the action to extinguish the flames, who have worked throughout the night to bring the situation under control.
27 hectares engulfed by flames
As a result of the fire, about 27 hectares of land with bushes and trees have been burned. Considerable damage has also been caused to the olive groves in the area, where both centuries-old olive trees and young trees have been engulfed by the flames.
Work to fully assess the damage continues, while the cause of the fire remains to be determined.
