A strong wave of influenza is massively affecting children in Elbasan, pushing the Pediatrics service to the limits of its capacity. Over 110 minors present themselves every day to receive first aid, while the number of hospitalizations is among the highest in recent years, completely exhausting the capacities of the health institution.

Doctors report that the high influx has started since the end-of-year holidays and continues with unabated intensity. According to the head of Pediatrics, Irena Palloshi, young patients present mainly with high fever, which they describe as "rebellious", as well as with respiratory problems. In many cases, these symptoms are associated with viral complications that require specialized treatment and hospital monitoring.

"Seasonal viruses have massively affected all pediatric age groups. We are facing more aggressive forms of influenza, with high fever and respiratory difficulties. It is important for parents to react early and not neglect the first signs," she says.

From January to now, around 1350 children have received first aid in the Pediatrics ward, while over 575 cases have ended in hospitalization, a figure that confirms the extraordinary pressure on the system.

The doctor appeals for increased vigilance on the part of parents, emphasizing the importance of immediate medical check-up in case of persistent high fever, severe cough, difficulty breathing or deterioration of the child's general condition.

As the flu season continues, health structures in Elbasan remain on full alert, but the main challenge remains managing the high influx and avoiding complications among the youngest.
