The final began under the complete dominance of the German. Zverev won the first set with deep scores 6-1, breaking his opponent's serve three times. Cobolli's reaction came immediately in the second set, where the Italian showed character and tied the score of the sets thanks to a 6-4 victory.
The third set was also very hard fought, but in the decisive moments Zverev proved to be more accurate and closed it 6-4. When it seemed that the German was approaching the trophy, Cobolli found the energy to react once again. The Italian won the fourth set in a tie-break, taking the final to the fifth and decisive set.
However, in the final set, Sacha Zverev immediately took control of the game. Two quick breaks gave him the advantage he needed, while Cobolli failed to capitalize on his chances to get back into the game. The German closed the set 6-1 and lifted the Roland Garros trophy for the first time in his career.
Despite the loss, the tournament remains historic for Flavio Cobolli. The 24-year-old Italian tennis player reached his first Grand Slam final and will enter the Top 10 of the ATP rankings next week, recording the best result of his career.
A final that confirmed Zverev as the new Paris champion, but which also marked the rise among the most important names in world tennis for the Italian talent, Flavio Cobolli.
