The Chairman of the Democratic Party Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi, has reacted to the European Commission's stance on handling requests for lifting the immunity of MPs, describing it as a clear call for the Albanian authorities not to obstruct justice.

In a public statement, the Democratic Party Parliamentary Group welcomed the European Commission's position and expressed gratitude for the encouragement given to Albanian institutions to act without delay in relation to the demands of justice.

According to Bardhi, the European Commission's statement, which emphasizes that it is the responsibility of the Albanian Parliament to promptly address requests for lifting the immunity of its members and that the fight against corruption is essential for the European integration process, constitutes a direct appeal to the Speaker of the Parliament.

"This is a clear appeal for the Assembly not to become an obstacle to justice and to fulfill its constitutional responsibility," Bardhi's reaction emphasizes.

He accused the Speaker of the Assembly of having acted, according to him, against justice for eight weeks in a row, implementing political orders from Prime Minister Edi Rama. Bardhi stated that the Assembly is being used as a "bunker of government corruption", obstructing investigations and actions by justice institutions.

In conclusion, the Chairman of the DP Parliamentary Group reiterated that the current moment is decisive and that the Speaker of the Assembly must make his choice. “Today is the moment to choose: either on the side of the law, or on the side of obstruction of justice,” concluded Bardhi.

Gazment Bardhi's reaction:

The Democratic Party Parliamentary Group welcomes the European Commission's position and expresses its gratitude for encouraging the Albanian authorities not to obstruct justice.

The European Commission's position that: "It is the responsibility of the Albanian Parliament to deal WITHOUT DELAY with requests for lifting the immunity of its members. The effective fight against corruption is of paramount importance for Albania's progress towards EU membership, which is also the expectation of its citizens", is a direct appeal to the Speaker of the Parliament.

Unfortunately, the Speaker of the Assembly has been at the forefront of the anti-justice front for 8 consecutive weeks, following Edi Rama's political order to turn the Assembly into a bunker for government corruption. We reiterate our position that today is the moment for the Speaker of the Assembly to choose: either on the side of the law, or on the side of obstruction of justice!
