Prime Minister Edi Rama has criticized the justice system for delays in resolving the "January 21" incident, where four citizens were killed while protesting in front of the Prime Minister's Office.
He stated that this issue has been one of the points that has most pushed forward the Justice Reform, but that the new structures have not been able to identify the culprits.
"Today, prisons hold more detainees, people locked up in cells without trial, than those convicted by court decision. A large part of them are victims of the negligence of prosecutors and judges. A sad panorama of a violated justice when the other side of the coin is justice delayed for January 21st.
Those primarily responsible for the tragedy were barely called to question after 15 years.
I knew that January 21st as a state crime is one of those cases where justice is delayed but not forgotten.
No state crime goes unpunished, but on the other hand, it is very evident in the annals of history how long punishment for state crimes is delayed.
Even in this attempt to find solace in history, I did not consider that the justice reform for which January 21st, as our priority need for justice, has been one of the main sources of energy to move it forward, and the independent structures that have been built would not raise any real charges for January 21st even after 15 years of the cruel murders.
Unfortunately, SPAK itself pretended that this issue did not exist.
"In the meantime, he has raised accusations for open issues even with an anonymous letter, and has consumed energy for years by holding hostage work of state interest, with issues that are so strained that satirical novels could be written, not judicial decisions," he said.
