"Prison, prison, prison" for citizens, but "excessive measures" when it comes to high-ranking officials. This seems to be the political metamorphosis of Prime Minister Edi Rama during his four terms in power.

For years, Rama built his political narrative on the idea of harsh punishment for ordinary citizens, emphasizing that the law must be strong and merciless for anyone who violates it.

During the years of his government, many citizens faced severe criminal measures: for electricity, for unauthorized construction, for a perimeter wall, for a water connection, or for administrative violations that in many other countries are simply treated with a fine. The message was clear: the law must be implemented without compromise.

But when the Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) demanded stronger measures against a very senior government official, such as Belinda Balluku, the standard seems to have changed. The measure of arrest, which was considered normal for citizens, was considered “excessive” for a high-ranking political figure.

This is not just a change of attitude, it is a metamorphosis. From the rhetoric of a strong state towards citizens, to political protection when justice approaches power.
