The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, from the Azem Hajdari monument in Student City, recalled the December protest that brought democracy to the country.
On the marked Youth Day, Berisha praised the figure of Azem Hajdari, describing him as a tribune of freedom.
"A greeting to you, to all those who played an extraordinary role in December 1990, in the history of the Albanian movement. Dear deputies, present, citizens, a heartfelt greeting. Like today 235 years ago, on December 8, 1990, students of Tirana and other schools, led by the tribune of Freedom, Azem Hajdari. Like a true hurricane, this protest divided the eras. They rose with extraordinary courage in Tirana, in the student movement, to overthrow the most savage dictatorship in Europe. Azem Hajdari, the tribune of freedom, and other students, were heroes. They took to the streets of Tirana, alone, abandoned by the Albanians, by Europe, as a whole. Courageous protests were undertaken in all cities. The Student Movement is an immortal work. Azem, you are alive!", said Berisha.
