More details emerge regarding the murder of Jani Aliaj yesterday in a Greek prison.

Greek media have once again brought into focus the murder of a dangerous figure in Albanian justice, who was fatally attacked yesterday inside the high-security Korydallos prison in Greece. The victim, against whom according to sources there was a "death warrant", had miraculously escaped a similar assassination attempt about six months earlier, in the same penitentiary institution.

The serious incident occurred when a 27-year-old Greek prisoner, also considered a dangerous criminal, entered his cell and stabbed him several times, causing fatal injuries. Despite immediate intervention, the 49-year-old died as a result of his injuries.
The victim had escaped from Corfu prison years ago, after being granted leave, and had never returned. He was arrested after almost nine years on the run and has been back in prison ever since.

resources Investigators say there has long been information about serious threats to his life, while rivals in the criminal world are suspected of ordering his elimination. For this reason, a few months ago he was placed under protective custody, being held in a cell with a former police officer accused of drug trafficking.

However, the security measures were not sufficient. Yesterday, a fellow Greek prisoner managed to inflict critical blows to the body, from which the 49-year-old could not survive. Greek authorities have launched a full investigation into the circumstances of the incident, while the failure of security protocols inside one of the country's most guarded prisons is also being examined.
