Former MP Dashamir Shehi, invited to the studio of the show "This Week", commented on the current political situation in the country, focusing on the situation within the opposition, the role of protests and the lack of a convincing alternative for citizens.
Shehi stated that protests are an important tool of democracy, but according to him they cannot replace institutional political action. "I am for protests, they are a weapon of democracy, but it is not enough. Opposition is not done only with protests, it is done in Parliament, in the media, with internationals," he declared, adding that protests in Albania have "slipped" from their real function.
According to the former MP, the main mistake of the opposition was the lack of unity among the alternative forces. He emphasized that the division has led to significant loss of votes and weakened the political influence of the opposition. "If all the alternative forces against Berisha do not unite, the opposition does not produce votes and sacrifices thousands of them. If they were all together, they would have about 200 thousand votes, which would translate into 20 MPs and a political synergy," said Shehi.
In his analysis, Shehi pointed out that citizens do not see a real alternative in the opposition, as according to him it continues to offer Sali Berisha as a political solution. "People do not see an alternative in the opposition. The opposition brings Berisha as an alternative, and he does not have the time with him. He cannot repeat it either because of his age or because he is seeking to come to power for the third time, with burdens from previous governments," he concluded.
