Italian Investigative Journalist, Nello Trocchia in an interview on the show "Opposition" IN News24, spoke about the criminal situation in Albania, criminal groups and money laundering, as well as connections with the government,
During the interview, he stressed that it is very problematic that the Albanian mafia has found a wide reach. He also recalled a meeting that took place in 2019 where, according to him, representatives of the Rama government met with a criminal.
"From marijuana they moved on to heroin and cocaine. It's a whole mountain of money and they want to launder it. And there arises a need for them to be able to corrupt the public administration as well. The penetration of these structures into the administration is emphasized and in my book I say for the first time what happened in the anti-mafia investigation, which says that in 2019 a meeting took place in Aruba between a criminal and a representative of the Rama government. I have published this information and before publishing it I asked Mr. Rama to give me an explanation, but despite my efforts I did not have an answer. That information spoke of a collaboration between the criminal cartel and a representative of the Rama government. In Albania there have been representatives who have been involved in investigations and have been forced to resign, for example the resignation of the Minister of the Interior related to the activity of his office... But who is building resorts, hotels, who is cementing the country? Of course big entrepreneurs, but there is certainly also a part of the investments that organized crime has made", he said, adding: "When we talk about the Albanian mafia, it is one of the first in Europe. There has been war between Albanian gangs," he said.
