Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa has reacted after today's opposition protest, strongly condemning police violence against protesters and the use of expired tear gas.

Full reaction

Police violence against protesters and the use of expired tear gas is unacceptable, a clear violation of the law and a serious risk to public health.

Expired tear gas that was thrown at the protest today can cause severe respiratory problems, chemical burns, eye damage and long-term health consequences, especially for children, the elderly and people with chronic diseases. These are not "side effects", but serious consequences of an action prohibited by law.

The law requires proportionality, security, and respect for the life and dignity of citizens.

No uniform of the drug police or drug guard justifies abuse of duty, no order of the drug government justifies endangering people's health.

Protest is a civil right.

Police violence and expired chemicals are an abuse of power and a danger to the lives of citizens.
