A protester, during the rally in front of the Prime Minister's Office, recalled the exodus of August 7, 1991 on the ship "Vlora", connecting it to today's situation and the message of the protest.
She said that this date remains a symbol of the massive departure of Albanians, while emphasizing that today citizens have gathered in the square with a completely different message.
"Today is August 7, which coincides with the departure of 20 Albanians on the ship 'Vlora' from the port of Durrës. They left on a ship that had gone to deliver and receive sugar. In a way, that ship was taken hostage by the Albanians," she said. According to the protester, August 7 of this year finds citizens in protest, with the aim of not being forced to leave the country again.
"This August 7th finds us in this square, because we no longer want to leave. Albania is ours. We do not want to leave to vacate the country for the tyrants. We owe this to the generations to come," she declared.
In her speech, the protester also focused on the economic difficulties of citizens, saying that many Albanians do not have the opportunity to vacation even in their own country. "We want to go to our beaches. About 40% do not manage to vacation in their own country, because they do not have the opportunity," she said.
