Journalist and researcher Ilir Ikonomi has reacted through a Facebook post regarding the protest taking place in Albania, describing it as an unusual and inspiring phenomenon.
From Washington, Ikonomi says he is following the protest as if he were present in the square himself and that he is amazed by the creativity of young Albanians.
According to him, unlike many protests in Europe that are often accompanied by clashes, violence and tensions, the protests in Albania are being characterized by intelligent messages, memes, videos and creative forms of civic expression.
"While in such cases the squares of Europe turn into arenas of fights, smoke and fire, ours is an endless river of memes, videos and intelligent articulations. Without violence. Only with love for the country, for the land and for our wonderful nature," he writes.
In his reaction, he also touches on immigration, indicating that he has heard two young people say that they would return to live in Albania if, according to them, the corrupt political caste leaves.
"Is there anything more beautiful than the return of a young population that is today considered lost, gone?" he asks.
At the end of the message, Ikonomi expresses regret that, according to him, the voices of the protesters are not being heard by the country's leaders, drawing a parallel with historical cases when a single leader has held hostage the aspirations of a people and an entire generation.
