The civic protest against the government and the entire political class marks its 48th day today. This afternoon, citizens gathered again in "Skënderbej" Square and then stationed themselves in front of the Prime Minister's Office building, confirming that the revolt that has been going on for weeks has no intention of stopping. After several hours of speeches, the citizens started the march on the Boulevard again, as they do every night, while announcing that there will be more of them tomorrow.
Organizers have called for as large a turnout as possible, while reiterating that the main demand remains unchanged: the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the removal of the political caste that, according to them, has held the country hostage for more than three decades.
The protest's message became even clearer on the 47th day, when organizer Edison Lika declared that the movement would not enter into any negotiations and would not allow anyone to represent it politically.
"This movement will never enter into negotiations because its demands are clear. We have no intention of negotiating with anyone. The first point of this protest is Rama's resignation," he said.
During yesterday's protest, activists also criticized efforts that, according to them, aim to create the idea of a reflection within the majority, emphasizing that citizens will not be satisfied with cosmetic moves or name changes in the government.
One of the most symbolic moments was the participation of students wearing graduation caps. With the message “We will stay, we will not leave,” they declared that the future of Albania cannot be built without the youth.
Likewise, activist Sidorela Vatnikaj demanded that the investigations not stop at former officials, but extend to the highest government leaders.
"Edi Rama should be investigated as the head of a criminal organization and not as the Prime Minister of Albania," she declared.
The banners also continued to be one of the most prominent elements of the protest, with ironic and satirical messages against the government, the opposition and the entire political class. There were also chants that have now become symbols of this movement: “Albania seeks revolution”, “New Albania”, “The end has come for you”, “We will not stop without resigning”, “Rama, resign”, “Parliament of crime” and “Rama SPAK you!”.
After 47 consecutive days in the square, organizers insist that the protest will continue every day, inviting citizens to join today in the 48th rally, which they say will continue until the protesters' demands are met.
