Once called the "university of strikers", Serie A is currently experiencing a clear goal crisis. After 27 weeks of the league, the numbers speak for themselves: the season's top scorer, Lautaro Martinez, has scored just 14 goals - the lowest tally at this stage of the season in the last 26 years.

More worrying is the fact that he is the only player in double figures. Behind him are several names with 8 or 9 goals, including Rafael Leao, Rasmus Hojlund, Moise Kean and Christian Pulisic. An unusual picture for Italian football, which has historically produced serial bombers.

Also noticeable in the current ranking is the lack of classic "number 9s" and small-team scorers - those who once kept the race for the top scorer title alive, such as Fabio Quagliarella or Antonio Di Natale.

The comparison with other European championships is even more significant: in England, Erling Haaland has scored 22 goals; in Spain, Kylian Mbappe leads with 23; while in Germany, Harry Kane has reached 30 goals in just 24 matches.

Figures that clearly show that Serie A is no longer the "home of the bombers." An open debate about the quality, style of play and the lack of a dominant striker to restore the former glory of the Italian championship.
