Slavia Prague were just two minutes away from celebrating their Czech title. And despite winning 3-2 against Sparta Prague in the derby, Slavia fans took over the pitch. They caused the match to be interrupted, and Sparta players were also hit.
The chairman of the board, Jaroslav Tvrdik, did not hide the feeling of shame that has gripped the club. Now even winning the championship title is at stake.
"We cannot ask for any mitigating circumstances for ourselves, our fans ran onto the pitch, stopped the match before it was over. The opponent reported an attack on one or two players. I think it is legitimate that the match was stopped."
When I spoke to our players, if something similar had happened to them, we would have acted the same way. We can only apologize. We have to react to this in the future so that such situations simply do not happen again. It is difficult. We were three or four minutes away from celebrating the championship title, I believe the players would have coped with it. Instead, it is probably the biggest shame I have experienced in 11 years at the club.
"I apologize to all the normal fans who stood in the stands, I apologize to all the spectators on the screen. It's a shame, we have to live with it," said the chairman of the board of Slavia Prague.
