The Head of Civil Emergencies, Haki Çako, has given News24 details on the fire situation in the country, stating that the situation in Kruja and Prisk remains problematic.

Çako said that several small fires remain active in Krujë, remaining within the perimeter of the large fire, while work is being done to eliminate them. Another fire has appeared at the entrance to the city, which was managed yesterday and interventions continue today.

According to Çako, the Civil Protection Agency and other operational structures are on the ground, while during this period around 1500 police forces, over 1400 fire protection personnel and over 1000 military forces have been engaged.

He stressed that Albania has not had to turn to the European ERCC mechanism in Brussels for assistance so far. Regarding the most problematic areas, Çako announced that currently two points are considered the most critical: Priska and Kruja, where air intervention has also been requested. The Head of Civil Emergencies also said that a large part of the fires are suspected to be caused by human activity, while some cases are accidental and others may be intentional.

"After a long night of work in Kruja, where it passed without consequences in homes and other environments or people, we have been engaged in several other territories. In Kruja, several fires have remained, within the perimeter of the large fire that is being eliminated. In Kruja, a fire has appeared in the entrance part of the city, where it was managed yesterday and is continuing today. The Civil Protection Agency, together with several structures, are on the ground. During this period, there has been engagement of operational forces and structures. 1500 police forces, over 1400 fire protection personnel, not excluding over 1 thousand or so military forces. We have not had to turn to the ERSS in Brussels for help.
The National Civil Emergency Center manages 24/7 and evaluates information in real time. It also coordinates the central police and emergency structures. Currently, we have two most critical points where we have engaged and assisted from the air, in Priska and Kruja. Most of the fires are mainly caused by man, some accidental, some criminal events, for certain interests. The State Police deals with these investigations,” said Çako.
