The USA made an ideal start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup at home, dominating Paraguay 4-1 in Los Angeles to improve their recent Group Stage record to just one defeat in 10 matches, while Los Guaraníes suffered a dismal return after 16 years.
The challenge was unlocked in the 7th minute with an own goal by Bubadilla, while in the 28th minute Folarin Balogun had a goal disallowed. But he did not stop and in the 31st minute he doubled the score thanks to an assist from Pulisic. The striker did not stop there and in the last minute of extra time of 45 minutes he scored his own double, thus closing the first half.
The only goal for Paraguay came in the 73rd minute thanks to Mauricio, while the home team sealed the victory in the 98th minute through Reina.
It is the first time the USA has scored four goals in a World Cup match, marking their biggest win in the competition, surpassing the 3-0 victory over Paraguay in the two teams' matches in 1930.
