Former miner Qani Shino raised strong criticisms of the political class and the living conditions of the elderly during an interview on the show "News24 Weekend.

Shino described the situation of former miners in Albania as a real persecution, noting the stark contrast between the funds spent on certain services and the minimum pensions.

"We former miners are persecuted in Albania today. If we make a comparison, a stray dog has a tender of 280 euros, a retired miner does not receive 170 euros. This is the discrimination between us and the street dogs," Shino declared in harsh tones.

In addition to the financial insufficiency, he also highlighted the lack of social facilities for pensioners, as well as the long and unfinished struggle for the recognition of their status. "We have social problems. Albania does not have a center for the elderly where pensioners can gather. I also go out to protest and have been protesting for 37 years for the status of miners. Politics has massacred us, neither miner status, nor dignified pension," he said.
