The 3rd Linear Accelerator is fully operational in the Oncology Service at QSUNT, where the first patient has been successfully treated.
This investment increases the treatment capacities in the Radiotherapy Unit and significantly improves the quality of service for oncology patients, through the application of modern technologies and high-precision techniques. Meanwhile, work continues to bring brachytherapy and the 4th Linear Accelerator.
The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Evis Sala, during the inspection at the Oncology Hospital at QSUNT, said that through the new accelerator and the implementation of modern modules, the service capacities in the Radiotherapy Unit are increased, while the application of new techniques realizes interventions with high precision and more efficient treatments for patients.
Minister Sala praised the cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, both for the support with modern equipment, and for strengthening professional capacities through the training of medical staff and physicists.
Focusing on the investment program for the modernization of oncology services, Minister Sala emphasized that work is continuing to further expand and strengthen treatment capacities in the country.
"The program to improve oncology services is progressing very well because we have upgraded the two current accelerators, we will soon have brachytherapy, and we have budgeted to bring in the 4th Linear Accelerator," Minister Sala announced.
The Minister also inspected the day chemotherapy rooms, where patients currently receive service in comfortable environments and according to defined time slots, enabling more efficient flow management and improved organization of service for patients.
Currently, in the Radiotherapy Unit, about 140 patients are treated per day with the two accelerators, while with the addition of the third accelerator, the number of treatments reaches about 200 patients per day.
