Prime Minister Edi Rama delivered his speech during the event organized at the Palace of Congresses in Tirana, on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Socialist Party. In part of his speech, Rama focused on justice issues and political challenges that, according to him, are related to the country's transformation process and European integration.
"We are not here to demand the freedom of a political prisoner, because this is not our issue, because there are no political prisoners in Albania, because no matter how painful and unjust it may seem to us, precisely because we are here to make history and leave our children a different Albania, we only have one extremely difficult task, a task that Fatos Nano performed best by not only facing prison and coming out with his hand outstretched towards his captor and facing other humiliations...", Rama said, referring to previous political periods.
He added that the Socialist Party has the responsibility to follow a historical path, with the aim, as he said, of building a different Albania for future generations.
According to the Prime Minister, the country is at a crucial moment between the past and the future, while emphasizing that integration into the European Union requires, as he put it, “sacrifices of all kinds.” Rama also underlined the role of justice in this process, describing it as one of the main challenges for Albanian politics, as according to him it also includes the handover of power and responsibility before the law.
Edi Rama: We are not asking for freedom for the political prisoner Erion Veliaj, because it is not our issue. No matter how painful and unjust it may seem to us. We precisely because we are here to make history and leave our children a different Albania have a duty, the duty Fatos Nano performed best not only by facing the prison and by coming out with an outstretched hand to his prisoner. Without ever opening the sea of socialists to flood Albania from the beginning. We are at a crossroads, not the PS, Albania. Between the past and the future. Between the Albania that we have had for so many years and what we have the mission to leave to our children in the EU. that in the EU requires sacrifices, of all kinds. Justice is the only real sacrifice that politicians make because they release power, they release a sword with the risk that it will come to them justly and unjustly.
