Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa reacted sharply to the tragic event, calling it unacceptable to treat cases of drunk driving as "accidents" or "negligence."
In her response, she calls for changes to the Criminal Code, so that these cases are considered serious crimes against life, since according to her, whoever gets behind the wheel drunk acts with full awareness of the consequences. Zhupa emphasizes that justice must be at the height of the pain of the affected families and expresses condolences to the victims, as well as prayers for the recovery of the injured child.
Ina Zhupa's full reaction
Today is a black day that should shake us all.
I cannot find the right words to express my deepest condolences to the families who have lost a part of their soul, their children. I pray with all my heart for the recovery of the injured child.
This is an opportunity to reflect as legislators, we cannot continue to call "accidents" or "negligence" cases when someone gets behind the wheel drunk. This is a conscious act, where the car turns into a weapon and the risk to the lives of others is intentional.
It is time for the Criminal Code to no longer treat these people as violators of traffic rules, but as perpetrators of serious crimes against life. Anyone who drives while intoxicated does so with full knowledge of the consequences.
Justice must be at the proper height and provide true justice.
