Ilaria Sula's father, in a statement for the show "With an Open Heart" by author and moderator Evis Ahmeti, stated that March 25, 2025 was the last day they heard their daughter's voice.
From that moment on, everything turned into anxiety, anticipation and a bad premonition that, unfortunately, turned out to be true. While the family desperately searched for news about her, the perpetrator allegedly tried to hide the crime, using Ilaria's phone to send messages and create the illusion that she had left willingly. A cold attempt to deflect the truth.
It was her brother who did not give up, managing to track the phone and lead investigators to the discovery of the terrible truth. Ilaria's lifeless body was found hidden in a suitcase, thrown into an abyss, a detail that makes the parents' pain even worse.
"Ilaria was very correct and never spoke her mind, that's when we became alarmed and left for Rome, to the apartment where Ilaria lived with 5 other girls.
We called them to ask when Ilaria left the house that morning, and they joked about it and told us that Ilaria was fine, based on the messages he sent them on the phone, that they were supposedly living together. They thought nothing bad had happened, they took it as a joke.
We immediately understood that something was wrong, and the woman even told me; Ilarian was either killed or there was someone with a gun to his head who wasn't answering the phone. But we didn't want to believe it.
We filed a police report, it was Saturday, the search began, and on Sunday we went to the police station again. My wife and I were crying, a police officer saw us and asked us what had happened. There we filed a complaint again from the beginning.
In Ilaria's room were the computer, laptop, documents, and wallet that Ilaria had not taken with her.
We searched on the computer for where her phone could be, it was my son who was looking and found that the phone was at Mark's house. On Monday, the real search began.
We as parents had an idea about their relationship but we didn't agree to the story coming out because, as we had told our daughter, we have no relationship with Filipinos or similar races.
But Ilaria had told us that if they were to break up, she should be the one to decide.
"They were together for 1.5 or 2 years. Ilaria had asked for a break in their relationship. He has always deceived my daughter. He had told her he studied at two faculties when in fact it was not true at all," he said.
