Luçiana Kokaj, a resident of the Rrjoll area, was invited to the studio of the show "Oponencë" in News24, spoke about the recent protests, linking the cause of the protest to the months-long battle that the residents of Rrjoll are waging.
Kokaj strongly denounced police violence, the arrests of family members, and what she called "major censorship" of the situation in Rrjoll, while emphasizing that today's revolt in the capital has crossed every local border.
The resident explained the long ordeal through the courts of dozens of families who risk losing their properties inherited for generations, despite the fact that the area is also protected by international conventions.
"Rrjolli is a protected area even in international conventions. I have defended my son's right to his grandfather's property. We are wandering in the courts for our rights, we are 5 tribes, over 100 families and we are not owners?! Is our history not true?! Rrjolli has been subjected to great censorship," Kokaj expressed in outrage.
Further, she detailed the resistance of the residents of the area, directly accusing the State Police of violence and constant pressure on the community that refuses to give up the land.
"Those residents have done a heroic job. They have been facing the State Police for 4 months. We have been raped by them, we have been arrested, our family members have been in jail for days," the resident testified.
At the end of her speech, Luçiana Kokaj gave a strong message of solidarity for the protest taking place in Tirana, underlining that the cause has now become national and has united all the foci of civic discontent in the country.
"This protest in Tirana is beyond Rrjoll and Zvërnec," she concluded, implying that the popular revolt has reached proportions that can no longer be stopped.
