Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa has denounced the delay in the works on the water distribution network in Gjashtë, Saranda, accusing the Saranda Municipality and the Saranda Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company of mismanagement of public funds. According to Zhupa, around 400 thousand euros including VAT have been spent on the project, while the works are still continuing beyond the contractual deadline and with unacceptable quality.
She points out that the residents of Gjashta have been without water supply for more than three months, at the height of the tourist season, calling the situation a serious failure of the responsible institutions. Zhupa demands transparency in the use of funds, responsibility for delays and accountability for the conditions in which the residents have been left.

400 thousand euros from citizens' taxes for the water supply network in Gjashtë, Saranda, and the residents have no water while the works continue beyond the deadlines with quality like in the Middle Ages!
For the construction of the water distribution network in the village of Gjashtë, the Municipality of Saranda, through the Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company Saranda JSC, was awarded 33.333.330 lek excluding VAT (about 330 thousand euros, or approximately 400 thousand euros with VAT) to the company COGREN shpk.
The works are still ongoing, although the contract period was only 8 months. It was supposed to be completed in December 2025. On the ground, everything looks like an abandoned construction site: open roads, mud, and primitive works, as if we had gone back decades to the Middle Ages.
The worst thing is that the residents of Gjashta have been without water supply for more than three months. At the height of the tourist season, families are forced to face an unacceptable situation, while their protests continue to fall on deaf ears. This is a great damage to their livelihood but also to tourism!
Where have these hundreds of thousands of euros gone? Who is responsible for the delay in the works, the lack of supervision, and the suffering caused to the residents?
The Municipality of Saranda cannot hide behind excuses. It has the obligation to account for the delays, for the quality of the works and for the fact that citizens have been left without a vital service for months, while public money has been spent. The campaign promises have remained just the usual propaganda without concrete results for the residents of Saranda.
