Today, in 2025, this country has not found a more dignified solution for Tinka. In the entire situation of lonely elderly people, the indifference towards great figures of the nation seems most tragic.
All elderly people have the right to live well and with dignity. Everyone deserves care, warmth and concern. But among them, there are some who are part of our common history, part of the national identity. They should be treated with a different approach, not because they are worth more as people, but because they have given more to others. Such is Tinka Kurti.
A few years ago, she lost her son, a tragedy that would bring down any mother. But she stayed. As she has stayed all her life – on stage, in the service of art. Today, while she needs care and love, it is not right for her to be included in a system that cannot distinguish treasure from routine.
This is not just a human failure. It is an institutional and moral failure.
In every self-respecting state, artists, writers, teachers, scientists, are treated as cornerstones of society. They are not forgotten, nor are they standardized with a minimal service. They are honored, cared for, and immortalized in public life.
This event should be a call for awareness. For the Ministry of Culture, for social care institutions, for the Government. Let us no longer allow the great figures of the nation to end in silence. Let us create a dignified model for old age in general and special care for those who have given Albania its name.
