The wave of civic protests that has swept Albania has found a strong echo even across the ocean, among the Albanian diaspora in the United States of America. Invited to the show "This Week" on News24Florian Xhuti, an Albanian living in New York, has discovered that compatriots are organizing to take to the streets.
According to him, the mobilization has started spontaneously on social networks and it is expected that there will be a massive gathering in front of the Albanian Consulate building in New York tomorrow.
Xhuti indicated that the interest of Albanians in America is extremely high and that their revolt goes beyond the boundaries of a single local issue.
"People have made calls on social media. Tomorrow at 14:00 PM they will gather in front of the Consulate in New York. According to the conversations I have with Albanians here, there will be a lot of participation. People are very sensitive and it's not just about Zvërnec. The optics are much broader," Xhuti declared.
As he explained, the Zvërnec case has served as a spark, but in reality it is about a dissatisfaction accumulated over the years, with the diaspora demanding radical change and accountability for the way their country of birth is being governed.
