The head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has announced that the number of cases linked to the viral outbreak on the MV Hondius cruise ship has risen to 13.

According to him, Spain reported a new case among people placed in quarantine, leading to an increase in the number of infected. "The situation remains stable. The passengers who fell ill are receiving the necessary care, while the others continue to remain in quarantine," Ghebreyesus wrote on social media.

The WHO confirmed that three people have died from the virus so far, with no new fatalities recorded since May 2. In the past two weeks, all passengers, crew and medical staff have been disembarked from the MV Hondius cruise ship, which became the epicenter of the outbreak.

According to experts, hantaviruses are transmitted by rodents and can cause serious infections in humans. The World Health Organization estimates that between 10 and 100 cases are recorded worldwide each year, with consequences varying depending on the type of virus.
