The trade war between the United States and Canada is escalating, as President Donald Trump's administration has imposed new restrictions on Canadian imports. The new measures affect a range of products, including alcoholic beverages, dairy products, beer, wine, motorcycles and some types of metals.

According to the White House, some of the products will be completely banned from import into the US, while other products will see increased tariffs. The new measures are expected to take effect on September 29.

The Trump administration accuses Canada of "discriminating" against American businesses by imposing restrictions on American products while not applying the same measures to goods coming from other countries.

The list of products that will be banned from import includes several dairy products, including whey, non-alcoholic beers, beers made from malt, a range of wine products, rum and vodka, as well as motorcycles and mopeds.

Meanwhile, higher tariffs will apply to various products, including cheese, paper, furniture, mattresses, aluminum, iron, motorboats, golf carts and parts for fishing equipment.

The US decision comes on the same day that Canada's counter-tariffs on American goods also went into effect. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney warned that gradually breaking away from the US as a major trading partner would come at a cost, but according to him, the cost of inaction would be even greater.

Both countries have previously expressed willingness to reach a trade agreement, but the last negotiations failed in late August and so far no new talks have been planned.

The trade war between the two countries, which have historically been close allies and important economic partners, has caused concern for businesses on both sides of the border. Experts warn that the clash could lead to higher prices and lower demand for a range of products.

Meanwhile, Canada has also launched a wave of boycotts of American products, particularly alcoholic beverages, in a sign of public backlash against the Trump administration's trade policy.
