A touching scene has been recorded in Cali, Colombia after the powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake, where a couple was found lifeless under the rubble of their apartment, hugging each other, along with one of their triplet daughters.

Jairo Hernán Saavedra and Victoria Caicedo lost their lives after the collapse of the building where they lived with their three daughters, Ana Maria, Sofia and Isabella.

Rescue teams immediately began searching for her family members. After a day of operations, one of the girls was found alive, but with extensive physical injuries. She was transported to the hospital, where she was able to contact her family and confirm that she had survived.


In the early hours of August 12, search and rescue teams found the bodies of Jairo and Victoria. Shortly afterwards, the death of their daughter, Sofia Saavedra Caicedo, was also confirmed.

According to a family friend, the parents were found hugging each other under the rubble, in a moment that has shocked their relatives and friends. Meanwhile, the third daughter, Isabella, remains missing. Rescue teams are working among collapsed structures and concrete slabs in an attempt to find her.

One day before the tragedy

A friend of Jairo Saavedra shared moments from the hours before the earthquake on social media. He revealed that he had spent time with Jairo just hours before the tragedy.

According to him, Jairo, a salsa music enthusiast, had asked him to play one of his favorite songs, "Siempre Alegre." In a video filmed on August 9, the day before the earthquake, Jairo appears with his wife dancing and celebrating with friends. Moments that have taken on a new meaning today, as the family still awaits news about the missing daughter.
