A newlywed couple has been involved in a tragic accident on a Venice canal, leaving the 26-year-old woman dead and her 25-year-old husband in a coma.

Gabriella Querino and Sean Michieli were traveling in a small boat on Saturday morning when they collided with a five-ton watercraft.

The collision caused the boat to sink. As a result, the woman died, while the husband is in critical condition in a coma.

The body of Gabriella, of Brazilian origin, was found around 09:00 a.m. by a resident near Campalto Island, after three days of searching.

Police, firefighters and divers continued the operation to find her body, but strong currents and poor visibility made the search significantly more difficult.
