A serious incident has shaken the city of Shreveport in the state of Louisiana, where a gunman opened fire on several apartments, killing eight children and injuring several others.
According to local police, a total of 10 people were shot, with victims ranging in age from 1 to about 14. Two adults were also injured in the attack.
Authorities confirmed that the suspected perpetrator was later neutralized by law enforcement after a pursuit. Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith described the incident as an “unprecedented and shocking” scene.
According to police spokesman Chris Bordelon, preliminary investigations suggest the attack may have been an act of domestic violence, as some of the children killed are suspected to be relatives of the perpetrator.
The incident occurred in several different locations, while authorities believe the perpetrator acted alone and then attempted to flee in a stolen vehicle.
Police have appealed for cooperation from citizens who may have footage or information, while investigations into the motive and full circumstances of the tragedy continue.
