At least 18 bodies have been recovered from the sea off the southern island of Crete after Greek authorities discovered a partially sunken boat suspected of carrying migrants. Initial reports suggest the victims may have died from hypothermia.

Two people were found alive and in good health, according to reports by neakriti.gr, while the bodies are currently being transported to the port of Ierapetra.

The boat was spotted on Saturday afternoon, about 26 miles southwest of Chryssi Island, in Ierapetra, by a Turkish-flagged vessel, which alerted authorities to the incident.

Investigations into the circumstances of the incident and the exact number of people on board continue.
