A tragic accident in Irvine, California, has claimed the lives of South OC Cars and Coffee founder James Ver, 27, and a 22-year-old Florida woman, Alexis “Lexi” Kramer. The McLaren they were riding in crashed into a tree, was destroyed, and then burst into flames. The girl’s identity was only released after the accident, and the circumstances of the incident are still under investigation.
Kramer had traveled to California just two days before the accident to meet Verin, with whom she had been communicating online for about a month. According to her sister, Gracie, the 22-year-old had a passion for cars and motorcycles and had planned to meet in person with Verin, who had even paid for her plane ticket.

Gracie said Ver told her sister that he had separated from his wife, Emma Ver, and that a divorce was in the works. However, she expressed doubts about this claim, as, according to Orange County court records reviewed by US media, no divorce petition had been filed. “He lied to my sister and told her that his divorce was being finalized and that he was completely separated,” Gracie said. According to her, Ver communicated with the 22-year-old every day and eventually convinced her to travel to California to meet him.
The two spent part of Saturday at the popular South OC Cars and Coffee event, before heading out later in the McLaren. Ver also posted a photo of himself being pulled over by police, although it is not clear why he was stopped. According to initial reports, the McLaren was stopped at a traffic light and, after the light turned green, the vehicle sped away at high speed. Shortly after, the driver lost control, the car left the road, hit the sidewalk and then hit a tree.
The impact was so powerful that the McLaren broke into several pieces and burst into flames. James Ver and Alexis Kramer died at the scene. Authorities have not said who was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident. Investigations are ongoing to determine exactly how the crash occurred and what caused the loss of control. Meanwhile, before the 22-year-old's identity was made public, Ver's wife, Emma, had posted a photo album of their life together, including their wedding day, on social media. In her farewell message, she described James as a "smart, kind, funny and loving" man, writing that the opportunity to love him had been the greatest blessing of her life.
