US President Donald Trump has stated that he would be open to meeting with Iran's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, if an agreement is reached between the two countries, stressing, however, that he is not "his favorite person."
During an interview, he was asked if he would accept a meeting with the Iranian leader.
The American leader responded that he "doesn't want to meet," but added that "if it were to happen, it would be an honor to meet him."
"But if we make a deal, it's possible I'll meet him. I'd be fine with that," Trump said.
He also added that he is not sure whether he would welcome the supreme leader in the United States, but stressed that he would behave in a "respectful" manner.
Asked about the fact that Khamenei's family reportedly suffered losses in the initial US attacks on Iran on February 28, Trump responded that "he is not his favorite person," but added that "he is a professional in some circles and has a good reputation."
According to reports cited in the statement, Iran's former supreme leader, Ali Khamenei - Mojtaba Khamenei's father - was said to have been among those killed in the attacks, while Mojtaba Khamenei is suspected to have been seriously injured.
