US President Donald Trump has been honored with the Israel Prize - the country's highest civilian honor - in the category of "distinguished contribution to the Jewish people."
Israel's Education Minister, Yoav Kisch, officially announced this historic decision in December 2025, calling it a "historic decision" that recognizes Trump's extraordinary contribution to Israel and the Jewish people.
Kisch signed the award certificate and said that "there is no other person who can mark such amazing achievements and such a wonderful connection to the Jewish people as Trump at this time."
The award was initially announced by Prime Minister Netanyahu, who noted that it is the first time a foreign leader (and non-Israeli president) has received this honor in the 78-year history of the state of Israel.
The main reasons include the fight against anti-Semitism, the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, support for Israel's security, and efforts to return hostages.
President Trump is expected to visit Israel in the coming months, where he will be officially presented with the award at a special ceremony in his presence.
