Two people were injured in separate stabbing attacks in New York City within hours of each other. The suspected perpetrator, who witnesses said shouted “Allahu Akbar” (“God is greatest”) during the attacks, has been arrested by the New York Police Department (NYPD).
NYPD Chief Jessica Tisch said the victims were two men, one of Asian descent and the other Jewish. Both were taken to the hospital and are not in life-threatening condition, authorities said.
Police identified the suspect as Raul Morales, 51. The investigation into the motive for the attacks is still ongoing. According to Jessica Tisch, based on the testimony of victims and witnesses, Morales shouted "Allahu Akbar" during both attacks. For this reason, the NYPD is considering the possibility of classifying the events as hate crimes.

However, she added that, although the perpetrator had no known history of psychiatric problems in police records, preliminary evidence suggests that his mental state may have played a role in carrying out the attacks.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani also reacted after the incident, strongly condemning the incidents. "Such hateful attacks have no place in our city," he declared.
