German Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) welcomed the achievement of the framework agreement between the US and Iran and congratulated US President Trump on a "historic diplomatic achievement". The agreement could pave the way for a recovery of the world economy and the stabilization of the region, Merz declared on the night between Sunday and Monday (15.06.).

At the same time, German Chancellor Merz demanded that “what has been agreed be implemented with determination.” The Strait of Hormuz, important for the global oil and liquefied gas trade, must “remain permanently open and unrestricted for free navigation,” the German Chancellor said.

Furthermore, further negotiations should “in the coming weeks ensure that Iran verifiably ends its military nuclear program.” Also, there should be “no further attacks against Israel and other neighboring countries in the region.”

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that, as part of the G7 summit that begins on Monday in Evian, France, talks will be held on the permanent opening of the Strait of Hormuz.

"The aim will be to examine the consequences of this agreement, support for Lebanon, the permanent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and, of course, the conclusion of an agreement on Iran's nuclear and missile programs," Macron said Sunday evening in a video message published on the online platform Instagram.
