The leader of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, has organized the Security Forum in Washington in cooperation with American congressmen.

In a Skype connection on News24Mediu stated that the Forum addressed various issues regarding our country, where he assessed that a key point is the assessment of the consequences they bring to the region.

According to the head of the PR, investment in defense is a necessity in the geopolitical situation and threats that the world and the Alliance face today.

"Investing in defense is not just a matter of procurement. The first point is the necessity of NATO functioning in partnership. Investing in defense is a necessity in today's geopolitical situation and threats," he said.

Mediu also added that several important meetings were held at high levels during the Forum.

"I had a closed meeting with keynote speakers and congressmen. The US Congress is clearly in support of the NATO alliance with a commitment to the US and they see this as the most important thing for the security of the EU or the US but also global security. We held two very important meetings as the opposition, with the president of the American Republican Institute and the president of the American Democratic Institute.

We have requested engagement on important issues such as Electoral or Territorial Reform. These are encouraging assessments for the Albanian opposition, we have addressed the problem of corruption, trafficking, elections and democracy in Albania. The State Department's position was unchanged regarding corruption and organized crime, focusing on specific cases.

Capitalizing on this relationship by the opposition is something very important in my opinion, not only focusing on the effect it has within Albania, but also the consequences it has in the region, in the Balkans.

"It's positive, a strong opposition movement, the opposition already has its doors open," he said.
