US Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has reacted to the Trump administration's decision to lift sanctions against Republika Srpska leader Milorad Dodik.

In a statement, she called for the reinstatement of sanctions against Dodik.

"The Trump administration should be ashamed of its decision to remove Republika Srpska leader Milorad Dodik from US sanctions last October," Shaheen said.

“Dodik has used separatist rhetoric and undermined the integrity of the Dayton Peace Agreement, which contradicts the Administration’s justification for removing Dodik and his cronies from the list late last year,” she added.

"Dodik's visit to Washington has made it abundantly clear that he is not interested in putting the interests of all Bosniaks ahead of his own political interests," the senator's statement continues.

“The Trump administration should act quickly to reinstate sanctions on Dodik under the mandatory sanctions that I provided in the most recent National Defense Authorization Act.”
