About 100 US soldiers have arrived in Nigeria to fight terrorism.

The Nigerian newspaper "Vanguard" published information about this.

The American experts were transported by military transport plane to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state in the northeast of the country.

About 200 military advisors, analysts and trainers are expected to assist the Nigerian Armed Forces in conducting targeted counter-terrorism operations. Earlier, three US military transport aircraft delivered a batch of equipment, including ammunition, to a Nigerian Armed Forces base in Borno State.

According to the newspaper, these are just the first in a series of similar flights.

“Following talks between Nigeria and the United States, the US government will not only send us military personnel but will also provide us with the necessary logistical support, including ammunition, to fight the insurgents,” the publication wrote, citing a source at the Nigerian Army Headquarters.

Observers have noted that the US is planning to establish a base for military reconnaissance drones in northeastern Nigeria to monitor the situation in the Sahel region, after losing such a base in neighboring Niger.
