Russia launched a new airstrike on Kiev in the early hours of Tuesday, September 8, resuming bombing after a three-day pause. The attacks had been suspended in recent days, during a period that coincided with the visit to Ukraine by US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Sirens were sounded in the Ukrainian capital, while air defenses were put on alert in response to the attack. Local authorities urged residents to stay in safe places, while explosions were reported in several areas of Kiev.

Damage was also reported in the wider capital area. According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, industrial buildings in the Boryspil and Fastiv districts were hit, causing fires and damage to vehicles.
The attack comes shortly after the end of a three-day pause, which coincided with the presence of two of the US President's envoys in Ukraine. Witkoff and Kushner have been holding meetings as part of the US administration's efforts to restart the diplomatic process and find a solution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The resumption of airstrikes on Kiev comes at a sensitive moment for diplomatic efforts, adding to uncertainty over the possibility of reaching a ceasefire agreement.
