Ukraine has conveyed to Russia, through a third country, a proposal for a mutual ban on attacks on civilian targets in the Black Sea, according to a well-informed source cited by Reuters.
According to the source, Kiev has not yet received a response from Moscow on the proposal.
The initiative comes at a time when attacks in the Black Sea have raised concerns about the security of civilian shipping and grain exports. More recently, attacks on ports and transport infrastructure have caused disruptions to operations and raised fears of an impact on global food markets.
An agreement to avoid strikes on civilian targets and commercial ships would aim to reduce the risk to shipping in the Black Sea and preserve important corridors for grain exports.
However, so far there is no official confirmation from Moscow about the acceptance or rejection of the Ukrainian proposal.
