Ukraine has launched a massive drone attack in one of the deepest strikes inside Russian territory, targeting industrial and civilian facilities in the city of Nizhnekamsk, in the republic of Tatarstan, more than 1,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
According to local authorities, the attack caused casualties and hit several objects in the area, including industrial infrastructure.
The mayor of Nizhnekamsk announced the attack via Telegram, while Tatarstan authorities declared a day of mourning for the victims of the attack, which they described as "massive."
Strikes also in Omsk
On July 6, Ukraine also struck Russia's largest oil refinery, in Omsk, about 2,500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
The attack caused disruption to refinery operations and demonstrated Kiev's ability to strike strategic targets deep inside Russian territory.
Such attacks are part of Ukraine's effort to damage Russia's energy and industrial capacities and increase the cost of the war for Moscow.
The strike in Tatarstan comes at a time when Kiev is intensifying its use of long-range drones, making it increasingly difficult for Russia to protect strategic facilities located hundreds or thousands of kilometers from the front line.
