The echoes of Turkey's elimination from the 2026 World Cup continue. The Turkish Football Federation has asked FIFA to replay the match lost to Paraguay, contesting the arbitrary decisions that, according to it, influenced the final result.
At the center of the complaint is referee Ivan Barton, who is accused of failing to show Paraguayan Matias Galarza a second yellow card. According to the Turks, the player should have been sent off after he briefly grabbed and held the referee's lost watch during an unusual incident on the pitch.
However, FIFA did not accept Turkey's request, leaving the match result and the Turkish team's elimination from the competition in effect.
