A large-scale fire that broke out on Thursday about 100 kilometers north of Madrid continues to spread with high intensity, causing massive damage to forest areas of central Spain.

According to the firefighting and fire prevention authorities (Infocam), the fire has already engulfed around 260 hectares of land, while around 1,200 people have been forced to evacuate their homes due to the danger.

 

The flames started in the village of Mierla, in the Guadalajara region, part of the autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha, and in recent hours have spread mainly to the area of ​​the Sierra Norte National Park, putting local authorities on alert.

Emergency teams continue to battle the fire, but difficult weather conditions, high temperatures, and strong winds are making it more difficult to control the active fires.

Concern has also increased due to the approach of a new heat wave in Spain, which according to experts could worsen the situation and significantly increase the risk of new catastrophic fires.

Authorities have urged residents of affected areas to follow emergency instructions, while firefighting operations continue uninterrupted.
