In Burojë, Hashim Thaçi's birthplace, the former president's family members are anxiously awaiting the verdict of the Special Court in The Hague. His mother, Hyra Thaçi, is unaware that the verdict for her son and the three other former KLA leaders is expected to be announced today.
Hashim Thaçi's cousin, Halimi, has indicated that the family has decided not to announce the decision, depending on the outcome, due to her health condition.
"It is not known. It is not known, they have not told him. And if God makes us happy, then we will inform him and we will come to rejoice. And by God, if he is punished, we can never tell him anything," he said.
Halimi said that during the years of Hashim Thaçi's absence, his family and close people have experienced great pain, while today they are waiting for him and other former KLA leaders to be released and return home.
"We are waiting for him to be released as soon as possible. We have missed Hashim very much, both for his parents, for society, and for all of Kosovo," said the former president's cousin.
The hearing for the announcement of the first instance verdict against Hashim Thaçi and three other former KLA leaders began today at 10:00 at the Special Court in The Hague.
